Parliament this week: copyright, antibiotic resistance, cultural heritage

MEPs will vote on new copyright rules for the internet and adopt measures against antibiotic resistance. People also have until Wednesday to register for a cultural heritage conference.

On Wednesday, the legal affairs committee votes on new copyright rules for the internet. The aim of the directive is to ensure copyright is properly protected and remunerated when content is used online.

 

The environment committee will on Wednesday vote on two reports dealing with antibiotic resistance. The first proposes measures to curb the use of antibiotics in farming to prevent the spread of resistant bacteria, while the second outlines broader measures to fight antibiotic resistance.

 

Registration for a conference on the importance and promotion of European cultural heritage is open until Wednesday 20 June. The conference itself takes place next week on 26 June.

 

The constitutional affairs committee will on Wednesday vote on legislation that makes it easier to collect signatures for the European Citizens Initiative.

 

The industry committee will on Wednesday vote on measures to support high performance computing in the EU. Because of the lack of supercomputers in the EU, European scientist increasingly have to resort to processing their data abroad.

 

The  legal affairs committee will on Wednesday vote on legislation that deals with the challenges 3-D printing poses to intellectual property protection as well as health and safety. 

 

From Monday to Wednesday, MEPs will be meeting their counterparts from African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries at an EU-ACP plenary session in Brussels. Follow it live online.

 

The leaders of political groups and Parliament president Antonio Tajani will be in Austria on Tuesday, where they will meet Austrian chancellor Sebastian Kurz and members of his government ahead of the country taking over the EU presidency on 1 July.

 

On Monday, MEP Heidi Hautala and Commissioner Jyrki Katainen will answer questions on the  circular economy and the reduction of plastic waste during a Facebook live session.
